There are many types of track underlay available. These range from specially made foam underlay through to fibre boards (such as Sundeala) and cork tiles.
Foam Underlay
This is available from Model Railway Manufacturers such as Peco and Gaugemaster. This can come as grey foam strips or even pre-ballasted. Also there are special shaped foam underaly for points and slips.
Fibre Boards
A popular soft board used for track underlay is Sundeala board. This is a board used mainly in pin boards, and is ideal for model railway track. The board is made of fibres, compressed, but is soft enough to push pins in, making it easy to pin track down.
Cork Tiles
Cork tiles are also popular underlay for track. It is soft enough to pin track to, but strong enough to keep your track in place. These are available from most DIY shops and is also available in rolls mail order.
