Clearances

The following are minimum clearances

It is very important to leave extra clearance on curved track!

Track clearences are measured from the very centre of the Track

Track must be a minimum of 12'6"(3.81m)

Track must be a minimum of 8'3"(2.51m) from the edge of an embankment or cutting

There must be an overhead clearence of 15'(4.57m) from the top of the rail

Bridge piers must be a minimum of 7'6" (2.29m) away from any track

Platforms should be about 3'6"(1.07m) from the top of the rail

Platform edges must be at least 4'9"(1.45m) from the track centre

Station buildings must be more than 6'(1.83m) from the platform edge

Station Canopies must be at least 8'(2.44m) high

Embankments must be no steeper than 1.5 to 1
