Capacitor Discharge Unit

Electronic unit used to provide power to switch points using point motors based on coils (e.g. Peco, SEEP, H&M). The CDU consists of a capacitor plus some other components to control charging/discharging. A CDU is operated by making a connection across the output allowing the capacitor to discharge through the point motor providing a short high current pulse to operate the point motor. Connection is often made using a 'probe and stud' system with the studs mounted on a track diagram to assist the operators.
